Embracing Play

As parents of a newly-diagnosed child with autism you may be struggling to find ways to successfully interact with your child. The anxiety produced from receiving this news can be overwhelming. Embracing Play teaches you how you can begin immediately to keep your child engaged through what comes naturally to most children, play. Behavioral Intervention Association has worked with hundreds of children and their families and together we have seen that young children relate to others through sharing of experiences around objects.

In this video, parents discuss the importance of play in reaching their child with autism and the rewards that follow. Professionals and parents demonstrate strategies for creating the structure necessary to foster your child's play skills. Teaching your child how to explore and enjoy objects in his/her environment, through "Object Focused Play," sets the foundation for your child's communication and social development.
