Family Questions:

  • Does the child have a diagnosis from a diagnostician who is experienced with young children with autism spectrum disorder?
  • Can we diligently adhere to a regime of protocol, procedures and philosophy to create an on-going appropriate learning environment?
  • Do we have the time to devote to supporting a home-based program?
  • How will we fund a program?
  • If we are asking the local education agency to fund our program, are we prepared to effectively advocate for appropriate type(s) of service(s) for our child?
  • Are we honestly able to put real demands upon our child to challenge them to learn and grow? (or do we simply give in so as to keep the status quo)
  • Are we emotionally prepared to deal with learning about our child's strengths and limitations as they are revealed during the course of a program?
  • Can we be part of the team responsible for providing opportunities for our child during off session time?
  • Are we prepared to learn and effectively implement program philosophy?
  • Can we find friends, neighborhood and school peers to come to our house to play with our child?
  • Are we capable of facilitating these playdates?
